This is a classic underground house taking advantage of the earths thermal qualities whilst open to the south (northern hemisphere) for heating and light.
This half undergound house demonstrates you can have your cake and eat it too! A modernist design with a degree of earth coverage.
This gives an idea of the complexity of construction and therefore high cost of some underground housing types.
I sense the borrowing of traditional rock wall dwelling typology in this elyptical underground house. Underground housing may have some cost prohibitive aspects however it does present some significant opportunities for bushfire protection in the Gold Coast Hinterland.
